Glamour: One Image Three Ways

With image editing you can create different looks. In this glamour shot I liked the color image but I suspected it may look even better in black and white. Image editing produced three different looks: color, black and white, and black and white with a vignette.

Fashion Photography: Behind the Scenes

This summer I interned for Erica Velasco Photographers. Erica is an amazing vintage style wedding photographer. We did two fashion photo shoots one was a vintage inspired shoot and the other was retro pool party glam. A preview of sorts:

The King of Pop

This semester (or should I say last semester since it’s the summer?…time flies) I was challenged with designing a promo piece / mailer for my photography studio. I wanted to do something interesting that also revealed me as a person so I came up with this retro inspired piece. My family has a doll collection that was passed down from my grandmother who traveled all over the world. With each country she visited she added to her collection. She was also a huge Michael Jackson fan.  My sister and I both dance and are hugely inspired by the king of pop. So I couldn’t help but be notice the irony of the King sitting among the other dolls.

Punk Rock Portraits

Tarea is a makeup artist and stylist. She’s multi-talented because she can sing too (or should I say ’cause she can sang).  She needed some creative photos to promote her music. We had fun hanging out in West Phoenix…it was a lovely afternoon indeed.

We decided to check out the railroad cars…

Everything was fine until the cops showed up and made us leave. Despite that little inconvenience, it was an amazing afternoon.

Vintage Photos for ManeEnvy Salon

For a final project I created some advertising/marketing pieces for a local small-business. Mane Envy is a new salon in West Phoenix…the owner decided she wanted a vintage inspired photoshoot showcasing some great hair.

Urban Lifestyle and Destination

This project is for a Commercial Photography class. The task is to do something for Arizona travel/destination photography. I went a bit outside the box…I think my photos are more fashion and glamour inspired with a bit of destination at the end. The destination is Mesa Downtown at night. So you see some afternoon, outdoor, and night photography here.

Much thanks to my crew (Joe, V, Sarah, Rachel, and Desarie) for helping this project come to life.

Portrait Power

A major benefit to studying commercial photography is learning to take better portraits in different settings (outdoor or studio), using different equipment, and different lighting conditions (natural light vs. tungsten). Hard vs. soft light.

Each portrait was done in studio using different lighting conditions. Number 1 is soft light, number 2 (profile portrait) is using side lighting, number 3 is soft light again but in different ratios and a different background. In number 4 two lights were used (a hair light and key light).
